Antmee®Epoxypropoxypropyl Terminated

Technical Data Sheet: Antmee® Epoxypropoxypropyl Terminated Polydimethylsiloxane

Product Name: Antmee® Epoxypropoxypropyl Terminated Polydimethylsiloxane
Chemical Description: Bifunctional Epoxypropoxypropyl Terminated Polydimethylsiloxane / Epoxy-functional Reactive Silicone Fluid
CAS Number: 102782-97-8

1. Product Overview

Antmee® Epoxypropoxypropyl Terminated Polydimethylsiloxane is a series of reactive, linear polydimethylsiloxane fluids featuring epoxypropoxypropyl functional groups at both chain ends. Unlike standard non-reactive silicone oils, this bifunctional structure allows the silicone segment to be chemically bonded into epoxy, amino, or carboxyl-cured resin systems . This molecular design provides a unique combination of silicone-derived flexibility and organic reactivity, making it an ideal modifier for enhancing impact resistance, weatherability, and surface softness in coatings, adhesives, and polymer blends.

The series offers multiple viscosity grades corresponding to varying molecular weights. As viscosity and molecular weight increase, the epoxy equivalent weight typically decreases per unit mass, offering formulators control over crosslink density and final film flexibility .

2. Typical Physical & Chemical Properties

The following specifications represent the general physical properties of the Antmee® Epoxypropoxypropyl Terminated Polydimethylsiloxane series. Variations exist depending on the specific viscosity grade selected.

  • Active Content: 100 % (Silicone Fluid)

  • Functionality: Terminal epoxy groups (–CH(O)CH₂) at both chain ends

  • Density (at 25°C): Approx. 0.98 – 1.12 g/mL (varies with molecular weight)

  • Refractive Index (at 25°C): Approx. 1.408 – 1.440

  • Boiling Point: > 205 °C

  • Flash Point: > 110 °C

  • Solubility: Insoluble in water; soluble or dispersible in common aromatic, aliphatic, and ketone solvents depending on molecular weight

Disclaimer: Typical values are representative of average production lots and should not be interpreted as guaranteed batch-specific specifications. Minor variations are expected due to normal manufacturing tolerances.

3. Standard Specifications by Viscosity Grade

Please refer to the specific Antmee® product code for detailed Certificate of Analysis (CoA) data, including precise epoxy content and molecular weight distribution.

Antmee® EPS-20 to EPS-35 (Viscosity Range: Approx. 20 – 35 cSt)
These are low molecular weight, low viscosity reactive fluids characterized by higher epoxy content per unit mass. They offer excellent reactivity and rapid cure response when formulated with amine or anhydride curing agents. These grades are recommended for reactive diluents in high-solids epoxy coatings and for surface treatments where deep substrate penetration is required .

Antmee® EPS-100 to EPS-140 (Viscosity Range: Approx. 100 – 140 cSt)
A medium molecular weight grade offering a balance between reactivity and silicone content. Antmee® EPS-100/140 provides enhanced flexibility and impact modification compared to lower molecular weight variants, while maintaining good compatibility with epoxy resin binders. It is widely used as an internal stress reliever in electronic encapsulation and potting compounds .

Antmee® EPS-300 to EPS-500 (Viscosity Range: Approx. 300 – 500 cSt)
These high viscosity, high molecular weight grades contain a larger proportion of the flexible polydimethylsiloxane backbone. They impart maximum elasticity, softness, and water repellency to the cured matrix. These grades are particularly effective in textile finishing (providing a durable, soft hand feel) and in high-performance coatings requiring superior weatherability and abrasion resistance .

4. Primary Applications

  • Epoxy Resin Modification: Used as a reactive additive or co-resin in epoxy formulations to reduce internal stress, improve thermal shock resistance, and lower the modulus of the cured network. The terminal epoxy groups ensure permanent incorporation, preventing surface migration or “blooming” over time .

  • Coatings and Adhesives: Enhances adhesion to difficult substrates including plastics, glass, and metals. Provides improved flexibility, chemical resistance, and moisture protection in industrial maintenance coatings and high-durability structural adhesives .

  • Textile Finishing Agent: Imparts a durable, soft, and smooth hand feel to natural and synthetic fabrics. The reactive end groups allow for self-crosslinking or reaction with fabric substrates, providing excellent washfastness compared to conventional non-reactive silicone softeners .

  • Electronics Encapsulation: Functions as a stress buffer in potting and encapsulation compounds for sensitive electronic components, protecting wire bonds and solder joints from thermal cycling fatigue .

5. Packaging and Storage Information

  • Packaging Options: Available in 20 kg pails, 50 kg HDPE drums, or 200 kg steel drums depending on viscosity and volume requirements.

  • Shelf Life: 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored in the original, unopened container under recommended conditions .

  • Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, moisture, and sources of heat or ignition. Containers must be kept tightly sealed to prevent contamination and unintended reaction with atmospheric moisture. Recommended storage temperature range is between 5°C and 30°C. Prolonged exposure to humid air may compromise the epoxy functionality.
